Editing Existing Records in a SubGrid

Top  Previous  Next

Unless you "tell" the web page  to save  edits or new entries, the AyaNova database has no way to know that you have added a new record, or edited an existing record unless you "tell" it to Save. It is up to you to make sure that you save any new records added, or any existing record edits.

If the images below do not show on the grid you are attempting to edit, that means either the ability to edit is not a feature, or you do not have rights to do so, or the record requires that you open a entry screen such as a workorder entry screen by clicking on an objects column itself (for example, click on the workorder number to edit a workorder record).

Deleting an existing subgrid record:

If the subgrid provides the ability to delete, and you have the rights to do so, to delete a sub-grid record, select the Delete image DeleteGridRecord1 on the far right of the sub-grid row.

DeleteGridRecord3

You will be asked to confirm your deletion

Editing an existing subgrid record:

If the sub-grid provides the ability to edit, and you have the rights to do so, to edit an existing sub-grid record, select the Edit image EditGridRow1 on the far left column of the sub-grid.

Some sub-grids may display the editable fields in the same horizontal row, others may display the fields one above the other. Regardless, edit each field with the data you need.

Example: Edit an existing Labor item in a workorder

EditGridRow2

The screen will display the image that indicates the row is being retrieved from the database

EditGridRow3

The sub-grid row will now display so that it can be edited

EditGridRow4

Example: Edit an existing Workorder Status in the Workorder Statuses sub-grid

EditGridRow8

Note after editing, you must accept any changes by selecting the OK image EditGridRow5 otherwise changes will be lost.

Saving your changes to a subgrid record that has been edited:

Once you have finished editing a sub-grid record, you must accept these changes. If you close the entry screen that the sub-grid is in, even if you select Save or Save & Exit from the menu for the entry screen, the changes you have made to the sub-grid record will be lost.

To accept the changes, select the OK image EditGridRow5

To cancel the changes, select the Cancel image EditGridRow6

You have to tell the database to save any new entries - and you do this by selecting the EditGridRow5 to accept the new entry

Selecting a subgrid record:

The Select image SelectGridRow2 is to select a specific sub-grid record so that you can view the associated sub-records.

For example, if you are viewing a workorder that has multiple workorder items, and you want to view the Labor for the second workorder item, you  must select that second workorder item - as  Labor, Parts, Travel, etc for each workorder item will display only if the specific workorder item is selected.

When you first open a workorder, the first workorder item listed will be selected by default - note the color difference.

The sample Skin themes that come with WBI always has the "selected" grid row a different color then that of regular viewed rows (whether the grid has alternating color for grid rows or not)

If you click on the Labor tab, the labor records showing will be for the workorder item selected.

And if you want to view the Labor for a different workorder item, you must select that workorder item first

You do not need to select a sub-grid record to be able to edit it or delete it. You only need to select a sub-grid record if you want to view the associated sub-records for it.
