AyaNova®
service management software
System
Requirements / performance tips
Operating
system:
Microsoft Windows 98 with the Y2K Update 2
and Internet Explorer 4.01 Service Pack 2 (SP2) or later
Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition
Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition
Microsoft Windows NT® 4 Service Pack 6a (or greater) and Internet Explorer 4.01 SP2 or later
Microsoft Windows 2000
Microsoft Windows XP
Microsoft Windows 2003
Windows
NT 3.x & 95 are not supported
Internet
explorer 4.01SP2 or newer required for the Microsoft Data Access Components used by
AyaNova
NOTE:
Windows 95 is longer supported with AyaNova 1.9.X.X due to the Crystal Decisions new printing engine, and Microsoft's new
database driver update not supporting Windows 95
Jet 4.0 database engine
version 04.00.4331 or newer with same version on all computers
accessing the same database
It
is always recommended to have all latest service patches applied on your
operating system
Recommended
Memory:
If
Windows runs, that's all you need, however more is always better in terms of
performance.
Disk
Space:
Program
files:
Approximately:
50MB
Do
note that the AyaNova installation updates Windows system files which is why the
approximation is more than the AyaNova program size itself.
Work
order
database - variable, grows as you add information.
Resolution:
Minimum
display resolution setting: 800X600.
You
can not use the program at 640X480.
Network:
Designed
from the ground up for network use. Any network compatible with the
operating systems listed above is fine.
There
is a practical limit of 25 simultaneous users. You can install the
program on as many workstations as you wish, or license it for as many
technicians as you want, however you should keep the total
number of simultaneous users (active connections entering or accessing data)
under 25 for maximum performance.
Note:
you don't need a network, AyaNova can be used on a single stand alone computer.
Network
speed and general speed issues:
If
you are using a Windows NT server you MUST install the most
recent service packs as there are important performance issues related directly
to the database access method we use that are addressed in the most recent
service packs from Microsoft.
Failure
to do so can result in delays of in some cases 3 minutes when performing a
database intensive operation versus a few seconds after the service pack is
installed.
For
maximum performance on any network, whether Novell or Microsoft, do not run the
program over the network, install it
locally to each workstation as outlined in the Getting Started->Installation
and configuration section of the help file. Only the shared database file
scdata.sc and the report files (*.rpt) should be located at the shared directory
on the server. All users require full rights to that folder since they
must create/erase/modify files in that directory.
AyaNova
uses the START IN property of the Windows Shortcut to identify the shared data
location, there are no configuration files or registry settings required.
Anti-Virus
software:
If
you are running Anti-virus software at your server OR workstations, you must
configure it to NOT scan the scdata.sc file or you will see very slow
performance. That file is our main database file and is accessed
repeatedly, it is not necessary to scan that file. If you suspect a virus
scanner related performance issue, temporarily disable the virus scanner at both
the server and workstations to confirm.
WAN
/ VPN:
AyaNova
requires consistently high speed access to the database file scdata.sc, running
over a WAN or VPN will in most cases not be practical, we have an
alternative
solution instead which is designed specifically for remote access.
Jet 4.0 database engine:
If an older version of the Jet 4.0 database engine resides on
the computer, AyaNova will install at minimum
04.00.4331
Windows 2000 and newer comes standard with
newer than this version. But it is possible for an older program
to install an older version of the Jet database (as in Microsoft
Office 2000 without the service patch), so it is always
recommended to re-run your Windows update before running AyaNova
if you have installed an older program.
Also ensure that the Jet 4.0 database
engine is the same version on all computers that
are running AyaNova.
Check within the Windows System folder for
the following file:
MSJETOLEDB40.DLL
Right click on it from Windows Explorer and then click on the
version tab to confirm the version number.
In AyaNova it's easy to check the version,
go to Help->About->Detailed info for tech support button and
check the line that says "Provider version" it should be
04.00.4331 or higher
