Upgrading if networked SQL Server AyaNova 5

It is always recommend to read through all instructions first before proceeding.

 

AyaNova 6.x is a free upgrade if you presently are licensed for AyaNova 5.x

 

If you presently are running an older version of AyaNova than 5.x, refer to the appropriate upgrade instructions for your version and configuration

 

 

Before proceeding, make sure that you know your AyaNova Administrator username and password - log in and try it first.

 

When running AyaNova 6.x the first time after performing the steps below, you want to log in as the AyaNova Administrator to ensure successful update.

 

For this reason, make sure you know and have confirmed your AyaNova Administrator username and password before proceeding.

 

If you do not know your AyaNova Administrator username and password, before going any further log into your AyaNova 5.x as another AyaNova user that does have rights to the Users grid, and edit the AyaNova Administrator username and password, and keep that username and password in a safe place (i.e. in a safe).

 

 

 

Upgrading for network SQL Server configuration may be a 8 step process

 

1. Have all users out of AyaNova 5.x and all AyaNova 5.x related programs closed.

2. Create and backup your AyaNova 5.x SQL Server database

3. Uninstall AyaNova 5 programs

4. Install AyaNova 6 onto your server

5. Upgrade the AyaNova database

6. Install AyaNova 6 on networked computers

7. Install and configure any additional AyaNova 6 optional programs on the server (Event Generator, WBI, MBI and/or DP)

8. Confirm your SQL backup and restore procedures.

 

 

 

1. Have all users out of AyaNova 5.x and all AyaNova 5.x related programs closed.

 

a. Make sure all users have exited out of the AyaNova program

 

b. Make sure all remote access options are shut down via your IIS (i.e. Data Portal, WBI and/or MBI)

 

c. Make sure the network Generator service is shut down

 

 

2. Create backup of your SQL Server AyaNova 5 database

 

a. Make a backup of your AyaNova 5 database using an approved SQL Server utility such as SQL Server Management Studio

 

b. Make a backup of your existing config.txt file so that you can use it in step 4.c

 

 

3. Uninstall AyaNova 5 programs

 

a. Uninstall any previous AyaNova 5 programs via Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs on all computers

 

Uninstall QBI, PTI and any AyaNova 5 import utilities if applicable
Uninstall Event Generator, AyaNova Data Portal, WBI if applicable
Uninstall AyaNova 5

 

By uninstalling, you ensure that no older component files are left over before installing AyaNova 6.

 

 

4. Install AyaNova 6 onto your server

 

a. Download the AyaNova 6 installation file from http://www.ayanova.com/download.htm if not already downloaded and install

 

b. Install as per the stand-alone AyaNova 6 installation steps

 

c. Once the installation is completed successfully, replace the existing config.txt file in the AyaNova program folder with that you backed up as per step 2.c  (this way you do not have to manually edit the config.txt)

 

 

 

5. Upgrade the AyaNova database to 6

 

a. Run AyaNova 6

 

The first time AyaNova 6 runs, it will update your AyaNova 5 database. It may take a while to first load the log in screen as it makes internal changes - let it run as it could take 15 seconds up to 15 minutes or more, and the AyaNova 6 log in screen will show up when it is ready

 

b. Log in as the AyaNova Administrator.

 

c. You have now upgraded your AyaNova 5 database to AyaNova 6

 

 

6. Install AyaNova 6 on networked computers

 

a. Prep and install AyaNova 6 on networked computers as per step #7 of the SQL Server network configuration steps

 

 

7. Install and configure any additional AyaNova 6 optional programs on the server (Event Generator, WBI, MBI, and/or DP) as needed

8. Confirm your backup and restore procedures for your AyaNova 6 SQL database
